Fiber Line · Gigabit
The 10/100M converter's faster sibling: gigabit copper in, gigabit fiber out — for NVR uplinks, building links and any gigabit run that outgrows copper.

A gigabit media converter exists because gigabit traffic hits the same 100-metre copper wall as everything else — and the links that most need distance (NVR uplinks, building risers, gate and perimeter runs) are usually the gigabit ones. The ONV gigabit converter models pair a 10/100/1000Base-T port with a 1.25G SFP slot, so the same unit serves multimode (550m) or single-mode (40/120 km class) by module.
The gigabit models are the default recommendation for any new converter pair: the price difference to 10/100M units is small, and a link installed today will be asked for gigabit within its life. The 10/100M models remain right for a single camera or sensor link that will never grow.

Choose the SFP module with the converter, not after: module wavelength and fiber type are the link. For in-building gigabit, multimode 850nm modules reach 550m — enough for most risers. For anything leaving the building, single-mode is the durable choice. Where many gigabit links land in one closet, put the closet side into the 14/16-slot chassis.
NVR and server uplinks, riser and building links, campus paths and high-bitrate camera backhaul over distance.
Yes — the copper side auto-negotiates 10/100/1000. The fiber side runs at gigabit line rate, which is transparent to the slower copper device.
A media converter is a physical-layer device; its forwarding delay is negligible next to switch hops. It neither routes nor inspects traffic.
